First time here?

You don't need to be ready.
Groundwork gets you there.

No fitness baseline, no experience, no flexibility required. Here's everything you need to know before your first class.

We hear these every week

"I'm not flexible enough."

There is no flexibility required for Groundwork. The reformer supports your body through a range of motion that is adjusted to suit you right now. Instructors modify exercises routinely.

"I'm not fit enough."

Groundwork is low to moderate intensity. The goal is understanding movement, not fatigue. There is no baseline fitness level required to attend.

"Will I be the least experienced?"

Groundwork classes are specifically designed for beginners. Everyone in the room is at a similar starting point. The instructor's whole job in that class is to help you learn the equipment.

"What if I do something wrong?"

Instructors watch every client throughout class and offer individual cues and corrections. You will not be singled out. If something doesn't feel right, you can stop at any time and ask.

"I have a bad back / tight hips."

Reformer Pilates is adaptable. Tell your instructor before class about any areas of concern. They can offer movement modifications. If a healthcare provider manages your condition, please check with them first — and feel free to contact the studio by phone or the contact form on our website before booking.

"What if I can't keep up?"

Groundwork is deliberately unhurried. Nobody will rush you. There is no competition in the room and no expectation beyond showing up and paying attention.

Your first visit

Before you arrive

1
Book a Groundwork class

This is the required starting class for anyone new to the reformer. Browse the schedule and book at www.tidelinestudio.example.com.

2
Complete your intake form

After booking, you'll receive an email with a health intake form and liability waiver. Takes 5 minutes. Complete it before you arrive — you cannot participate without it.

3
Wear close-fitting clothes

Leggings or fitted shorts, a fitted top. Avoid loose fabric (it can catch in the carriage) and metal hardware on the back. Grip socks with rubber nubs are required — we sell them at the front desk for $16.

4
Arrive 10 minutes early

Time to park, find us, drop your things, and speak with your instructor before class. The studio door locks 5 minutes after class begins — late arrivals cannot be admitted.

5
Park free on site

Free lot at 418 Crestwater Avenue. Entrance on Crestwater Avenue just before the building. Street parking is metered weekdays until 6 pm; free on weekends.

What to bring

  • Grip socks (or $16 to buy a pair at the desk)
  • A small water bottle
  • Hair tie if needed

All equipment is provided. No large bags in the studio — use the lockers.

When you arrive

  1. Enter through Suite 12, 418 Crestwater Avenue
  2. Tell the front desk it's your first visit
  3. Use a changing room (two available with lockers)
  4. Your instructor will meet you before class
  5. Complimentary water and tea in the lobby

About the reformer

A spring-resistance machine with a moving carriage, shoulder rests, and adjustable footbar. It looks technical but your instructor walks through every part of the setup in Groundwork. You do not need to know anything before you arrive.

After your first class

Your instructor will be available briefly after class for questions. The front desk can help you book your next session, discuss a class pack, or explain membership options.

If you haven't yet used the Tideline Trial, you're eligible for 2 weeks of unlimited classes for $49 — a great way to try every format before committing to a membership.

We recommend at least three Groundwork classes before moving to Flow or Express, though it's not required after your first. Unwind is open to you after your very first Groundwork class.
